Real-Time Image-Based Modeling

In this paper, we illustrate an image-based modeling system that uses polyhedral convex hull representation of its input images. Our algorithm develops over Matusik [1] as a special case of convex objects. Although the formulation is same, convex objects have a lot of symmetric properties that general silhouettes do not have, such as rays cross a convex object a maximum of twice. This reduces the number of edge-bin intersections. We also developed a 2.5 D polygon clipper for our system. Our current un-optimized C++ code is able to run at 5 frames/sec, where modeling can be done at around 30 frames/sec for the case of 5 cameras.
